If you are paying or receiving child support, the new Massachusetts Child Support Guidelines will most likely change the amount you are paying or receiving!
The new Child Support Guidelines will be effective September 15, 2017 and the new formula significantly changes the way support is calculated. For example, there are significant changes relative to how insurance and child care payments factor into the child support order. Also, there will now be considerable adjustments made to the child support order once a child turns 18 years old. Furthermore, the new guidelines have also created new methods for imputing income on a party who is underemployed. These are only a few of the ways the new Child Support Guidelines set forth the considerations and the formula to calculate child support.
If you are paying or receiving child support, you should take the time to read the new guidelines and do the calculations to determine if the application of the new guidelines would result in you receiving more support or in you paying less support.
